MATCHA CHASEN

The Next-Gen Chasen for Daily Matcha

01 WHAT IS HAPPENING

Matcha is no longer just a Japanese tradition—from classic tea bowls to creamy lattes, it has become a daily ritual shared by millions worldwide.

Meanwhile, traditional bamboo chasen are becoming increasingly scarce. Rising global demand paired with a declining number of skilled artisans and limited supplies has made authentic whisks harder to source.

The fast pace of modern cafés quickly wears down delicate tines under varying care routines—making it a constant challenge to bring out matcha's full flavor profile and produce its signature, velvety micro-foam.

02 OUR APPROACH

Combining ARAS's precision polymer molding with centuries of tea expertise, we designed an intuitive tool that delivers lasting durability, exceptional consistency, and effortless performance for both coffee shops and home kitchens.

03 WHY WE MADE IT

We created this whisk not to replace the revered bamboo chasen used in formal tea ceremonies, but to honor Japan's timeless tea heritage while supporting today's growing global community—elevating the everyday matcha experience to be richer, highly accessible, and more rewarding for everyone.

04 COLLABORATION

This isn't just a product; it's a cross-disciplinary collaboration:

  • Traditional Craftsmanship alongside secca, a design collective bridging time-honored craft with cutting-edge technology.
  • Authentic Tea Mastery with Ryo Iwamoto (Soryo Iwamoto), Urasenke Tea Master, Founder of TeaRoom, and Representative Director of the International Matcha Association.
  • Scientific Precision guided by Professor Emeritus Kageyama at the University of Tokyo.

Together, we are developing the chasen by fusing generational tea mastery with scientific analysis and thorough testing.

BETA VERSION

Welcome to the BETA Phase

The whisk you hold is a BETA VERSION—crafted to be put to work, tested in real-world conditions, and continuously improved.

This is an early prototype, not the final product. We engineered it by analyzing the flexible motion of traditional bamboo tines, the fluid dynamics of mixing matcha with water, and the ideal conditions needed for crafting a smooth texture and velvety micro-foam.

Featuring split-tip tines and a proprietary three-layer structure, this whisk optimizes flex and rebound to achieve an even mix with minimal effort. Through rigorous testing with real matcha, we calibrated the shape, material, and movement of every tine. This version is built to create a silky, fine foam in seconds, making flawless preparation simple for beginners.

Engineered from high-performance polyketone, this whisk offers balanced flexibility, heat resistance, and long-lasting strength. For seamless maintenance, it disassembles easily and is completely dishwasher-safe.

We are actively refining every detail—from tine dynamics and micro-foam consistency to durability and daily cleanup—based on practical insights from cafés and home users like you.
